2026 Holiday Gift Guide: Alpaca Gifts for Everyone on Your List

Alonzo's Case Files: Who Gets What This Christmas

Hola, mi amigos! It is I, Alonzo, Meraki Movement's favourite (and only) Official Spokespaca, and I have a confession.

Last Christmas market season, everyone believed I was napping under the blanket table. I was not napping. I was observing. For six weeks I watched humans shop for other humans, and I took notes. Many notes. Some in pen. Some in hay.

I've turned my findings into eleven case files, one for every person on your list. Amanda says they can't be "confidential" if I post them on the internet. Amanda is not a detective.

Your own file is at the very bottom. No scrolling ahead. I will know.

Case File #1: The Blanket Thief

Observed behaviour: Joins you on the sofa "for one episode." Leaves with every blanket in the house.

The solution: Their very own large alpaca blanket. It's big enough to cocoon two people and light enough that nobody wakes up overheated, in patterns with names like Aurora and Redwood River. They get an upgrade. You get your blanket back. Everybody wins, mostly you.

Case File #2: The Always-Cold One

Observed behaviour: Wears your hoodie. Then your other hoodie. Asks whether the heat is on in July.

The solution: An alpaca blanket scarf, a scarf with the ambitions of a blanket. Wrapped twice, it's a scarf. Opened wide, it's a shawl. Draped over their knees during a movie, it's a small miracle. Your hoodies should be home by New Year's.

Case File #3: The Owner of Four Perfect Things

Observed behaviour: One good coat. One good watch. Mildly distressed by clutter.

The solution: Blok. Clean blocks of colour and a reversible beanie that matches the scarf, so the whole look arrives already decided. Rust and espresso suit the coffee-and-flannel type. Denim and linen suit the crisp-white-shirt type. It will become perfect thing number five.

Case File #4: Mom

Observed behaviour: Has given you roughly everything. Insists she needs nothing. Is gently fibbing.

The solution: A Jewel Tone scarf in Sapphire, Ruby, Amethyst, Emerald, Aqua Marine or Tigers Eye. It has the kind of richness you’d expect behind a jeweller’s glass. It says you deserve something beautiful, and she’ll wear it on an ordinary Wednesday instead of saving it in the box.

Case File #5: The One You'd Like to Impress (Hola, mother-in-law)

Observed behaviour: Notices everything. Has mentioned she "can't wear wool."

The solution: Uptown, a plaid with impeccable manners. It's polished enough for the family dinner and soft enough that she'll wear it to the grocery store the next morning. As for the wool: alpaca has no lanolin, the natural oil in sheep’s wool that most people are actually sensitive to, and it’s known to be hypoallergenic. Consider her impressed.

Win her over →

Case File #6: "Please, Don't Get Me Anything"

Observed behaviour: Says this every December. Means none of it.

The solution: A Metro Plaid scarf, the kind of check you'd expect to find folded in a cabin cupboard. Except this one's brand new, and it'll be the scarf he's still reaching for ten winters from now. Tuck a pair of alpaca socks inside, and "don't get me anything" turns into "where did you find these?"

Case File #7: The Human Rainbow

Observed behaviour: Owns a yellow raincoat. Wears it on sunny days.

The solution: Fusion or Ombré. Fusion sets two bold colours shoulder to shoulder, with a slim flash of brightness where they meet. Ombré drifts from one shade into the next, the way a lake deepens from shoreline to open water. One is a statement and the other is a mood. Both are compliments waiting to happen.

Case File #8: The Weather Is Merely a Suggestion

Observed behaviour: Hikes in sleet. Skates through windchill. Calls minus twenty "fresh."

The solution: A reversible alpaca beanie and a pair of alpaca socks. Turn the beanie inside out and it's a completely different hat: two moods, one pocket. The socks breathe on the way up and stay warm at the top. Kelly took hers into the wild: "Light weight and cozy, great for camping."

Gear them up →

Case File #9: The Name You Pulled From the Hat

Observed behaviour: Teacher, coworker or Secret Santa draw. You know their coffee order and very little else.

The solution: Alpaca socks, the gift that sounds modest and lands like a luxury. Pick a pattern with personality, like Carnival Skies, Heartline Squiggle or Emberstripe. Catherine's verdict: "Fits well, feels good, doesn't itch. I like them very much!" Expect a thank-you note.

Pick a pair →

Case File #10: The House Where Everyone Ends Up

Observed behaviour: Hosts every holiday. Owns forty mugs. Always has room for one more.

The solution: An alpaca throw for the armchair. Each evening it ends up around a different guest’s shoulders, and it makes the whole room look quietly styled. Our throws have been so popular this fall that they’re running low, with more arriving later this month. If the one you want is sold out, a large blanket folded over the armchair does the job beautifully. Arrive with either over your arm and you’ll be invited back. Indefinitely.

Case File #11: You

If you scrolled straight here, I know. I'm choosing to forgive you.

Observed behaviour: Shops for everyone. Forgets themselves. Every single year.

The solution: The Jolly Rancher, my personal favourite. A kind stranger handed it to me at Bow Lake once (that’s a whole story) and described it as “warm and posh — much better than Pashmina.” She was right. Put one in your cart while you shop for everyone else. I call it quality control.
